The Cath Lab Technician is responsible for assisting physicians during invasive cardiovascular procedures such as catheterization, angioplasty, and electrophysiology studies. This role involves operating and maintaining specialized medical equipment, monitoring patients’ vital signs, and ensuring the highest standards of patient care and safety.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac and peripheral vascular conditions.
  • Operate and maintain complex medical equipment, including catheterization lab cameras and monitors.
  • Monitor patients’ vital signs before, during, and after procedures.
  • Administer and monitor the effects of sedation and medications as directed by the physician.
  • Prepare patients for procedures by cleaning, shaving, and anesthetizing the area of insertion.
  • Assist in the insertion of catheters and stents.
  • Monitor and document procedural data and patient information, reporting any abnormalities to the physician.
  • Ensure all equipment is sterilized and all medical safety standards are met.
  • Provide post-procedure care, including wound care and patient education on recovery processes.
  • Participate in emergency on-call duties and overtime as required.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting catheterization lab equipment.
  • Knowledge of cardiac arrhythmia recognition and patient physiologic monitoring.
  • Ability to provide direct patient care and handle emergency situations effectively.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage inventory and supplies.

Education/Experience:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Cardiovascular Technology, Nursing, or a related field.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
  • Relevant certifications such as Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of cardiovascular anatomy and physiology.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work in a high-stress environment.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
